Accessible under Rooms in the Lookup Tables menu, this table should contain details of all teaching rooms (and others if you wish).  Keep the ‘Code’ short; the ‘Room Name’ can be as full as you need.

Current enables you to ‘archive’ rooms which are not currently in use. As in other parts of SchoolBase® whenever you see a field called Current, it is used to restrict the values which appear in pick lists.  If it is not ticked, it will not appear.  NEVER delete an old room, subject or staff member as you will probably have used that record in the past and deleting it (which the system would not allow) will cause problems with data integrity.

All rooms must be attached to a building or the Room Timetable printouts will not work!  The Capacity is used for some export functions but not within SchoolBase® other than for reports. The Telephone No could be used to create an internal directory.  

The Export code is just that and is used in the export/import functions. As with Staff, if you plan to import a timetable from a scheduling package, the room Export Code MUST match that used in the scheduling package.

Where a teacher has a particular responsibility for a room this can be indicated in the Owner column.

A room can also be allocated to a particular Department if you intend to set these up in the ‘Subjects’ table (see below).

 

As you build (or import) your curriculum and/or timetable, you will see the results building in the various Main Forms menus.  We will take a closer look at these before we build a new curriculum to help you understand the structures we are trying to create.
