Timetable

Some of these variables can also be set using the System Variables form. They are included here so that they can be controlled by the Timetabler without giving full access to all system variables. The meaning of the fields is as follows:

Max periods per day - exactly what it says. The setting here affects what happens when you click the Set periods button on the Periods tab.If you do 4 periods on Saturday morning and 6 on Wednesday but 8 on all other days – this is set to 8.

Max days per week - SchoolBase caters for 5 and 6 day timetables and also for timetables which run over two weeks or somewhere in between.

Import export area - If you are using a timetabling package you will need a location to store the files which are being transferred either from the package to SchoolBase or vice versa. The import area is any folder that you, the timetabler, has access to. It does not need to be a network path but can be.

Standard staff TT - this and the next setting specify which timetable template to use when printing timetables. You can use one of those provided or create your own. The process of doing this is similar to that used for Document Templates. If you are using templates it is essential that you either use a global template or you nominate the template to use with each part of the school. To do this click on the Pupil/Staff specific timetable setting button.

It is essential that staff are members of a part of the school. This is set on the School tab of the Staff record in the Attached to: box. If everyone teaches across the school we suggest you add a Pupil Type (PType) (it needs to be a number between 91 and 99) for ‘All Staff’ and then ensure all staff are attached to this type.

File for templates - This refers to the folder where all template files (not just timetable templates) are stored. The setting is there for reference only which is why there is no Browse button. It should be set by the System Manager using the System Variables form.

TT Template
- This is the name of the global template used for timetables. It can be overridden using settings in Pupil types form as described above.

Blank period text - Rather than show unallocated pupil lessons as empty boxes, you can choose to display a particular label such as ‘Study Period’.
