Each pupil’s report is made up of a number of components which may include assessments, scores and comments for individual subjects, statistical data and pastoral comments. Each of the tabs on the Assessment Pieces form is used for specifying one or more of these components. Comments You can specify here a number of comments for every subject. Most commonly there will only be a single comment per subject but you could, for example, specify here that a separate comment is to be made for Attainment and Behaviour. You can have up to 6 different comments. In order to use one: - tick the left hand box
- specify a maximum number of characters for the comment including spaces (the teacher will not be able to exceed this)
- give the comment a name which can be used as a label or column heading on the report
If different subjects require different numbers of comments or comments with different designations this can be set at a later stage. Curriculum You can specify here whether curriculum and/or method statements are to be used. This is a statement which will be identical for each pupil in a particular teaching group. Again tick the box and specify a maximum number of characters for the statement. We are often asked – but how much is 500 characters. The piece of text shown below is just over 600 characters in Times New Roman 10 point. The same text in 12 point Arial is about 8 lines long.
Lorem ipsum ut ius error utroque impedit, his partiendo contentiones ne, ne usu quaeque moderatius. Duo munere audire in, ne facer eloquentiam quo, sit ne enim Grades/Grades 2 Up to 14 different grades can be awarded per subject. This allows a great deal of flexibility. Often, however, you will want to restrict this to a couple of grades per subject, one for effort and one for attainment. Tick as many as you want to use, select a grade set for each one selected (see above under Grade Sets) and give the grade a name, e.g. Overall Attainment. You may need to keep the name short or abbreviated if it is to be used on a printed report. Scores You can include up to four numeric scores per subject. For several of the available input forms, the second and fourth of these can be used to display the mean or median of the previous score for the whole group. The forms have a button which causes the value to be calculated. (Whether to use mean or median is an option which can be selected via the Options page of the System Variables form.). To use a score, tick the box, set a maximum score and give it a name. Pastoral You can include up to six pastoral reports per pupil. For example, you may want a pastoral report from the form tutor, the house tutor and the head. Again for each one you tick the box, set a maximum number of characters and give the comment a name, e.g. Tutor report. Statistics These are fields which record a number of events. These may, for example, record the number of rewards or sanctions received by a pupil. Tick the number you want to include and give each a name. (It may be possible to automate the inclusion of these if they are recorded in the database.) Add on Some schools require additional comments on subjects or activities which do not form part of the overall curriculum. If you wish to use this feature you need to switch it on here and set a maximum comment size and (if required) a maximum grade selected from a dropdown list.
