Each pupil, past, present or prospective, in the database must be allocated to one of these types. Within limits you can have as many as you wish. However, there are some rules for how the numbers are allocated (all ranges are inclusive).
0 - 29 Pupils who have not yet and may never join the school.
30 - 90 Current pupils
91 - 99 Miscellaneous categories
100 - 199 Past pupils
200 Deceased pupils
255 Deleted pupils
The Pupil timetable, Staff timetable and Room timetable columns allow you to allocate a specially designed template which is used for pupils, staff and rooms in a particular part of the school rather than the default layout. To use room timetables in this way, the rooms need to be in Buildings, and the Buildings need to be assigned to a PType.
The Report title column lets you specify a school name which is used on a pupil's report in preference to the (possibly abbreviated) form in everyday use. e.g. 'St John's Preparatory School' instead of 'Prep'. This only tends to be used where parts of the school are managed separately, e.g. separate Prep and Senior Schools.
The Period Time Sets column allows you to assign a particular Period Time Set to particular PTypes. If this is left blank the standard set of periods will be used.
The Staff tickbox gives you the option to create a category which is only applied to members of staff. In some schools teachers are attached to a particular part of the school. Where this is not the case it is useful to have a category to which all staff can be allocated.
