For each main session of examination SchoolBase® will gather the necessary base files from the main examination boards. Rather than download from each board’s web site individually, you may prefer to get them from us. They will be in a single folder found on our website. www.furlongsolutions.com. From the main website choose SchoolBase® from the top menu, then Support, External Exams, then click on the file you wish to download. The files are already in a folder so, if the zipped file is already in your target directory, from WinZip use the Extract here option. Within the unzipped file you will find subfolders for each board, and each series letter within that board.
WJEC Series
As there are currently no SchoolBase® Schools in Wales, we have not included the Welsh and bilingual medium basedata in this download. If your school uses Welsh or bilingual medium WJEC exams, please inform Furlong on 01264 35411 or ideas@furlongsolutions. com

For each board and for each type of qualification you now need to import the files in the sequence Syllabus, Option, Link and Component. This can either be done as a ‘single-click’ operation, or the four files can be imported individually. Single click import is far quicker and simpler, but we have retained the original method 1 to allow vou to re-import individual files if boards release new versions.
Method 2: Single-click file import - To use this method, select the Syllabus file in the normal way (it always starts with the letter ‘S’), tick the All components box and click the Get all data button. This is a one step operation that imports all 4 files for a series. The 4 files must be in the same folder.
Method 1: Individual file import - Using the Exam Base Data Importer form, select the syllabus file for the first set you want to import e. g. S6A07_70. X01. Here S denotes Syllabus, 6 = June (though some boards use J), A is the series, 07 is the year and 70 is the board. November series will be marked as ‘B’ (1-9 =Jan-Sep, then A=October, B=November, C=December).
Now make sure the Syllabus checkbox is ticked and the click the Step 1 – Get raw data button. The system checks to see that this is the right file type. SchoolBase® will not let you import the wrong data. You will see an error message if you have selected wrongly.

Following step 1 you have the option to examine the raw data. To do this you should click the View (read only) raw data button. If at this stage you discover you are importing the NVQ data when you want the GCSE, you can simply browse off to the right file and repeat step 1. Once you are sure you have the right file, just click step 2 and the data is imported.
SchoolBase® drops you back into the file import area ready to import the Option file. You follow exactly the same sequence for this, then again for the Link and Component files. You then repeat the whole process for the other qualifications and boards for which you wish to enter candidates.
