Assessment

It is likely that there will be a range of assessment types used by your school. Within a particular school year you may have one or more brief interim assessments and one or more formal end of term assessments resulting in a document sent to parents. The form of these assessments will probably also differ between parts of the school. It is unlikely, for example, that the Preparatory School will want the same kind of document as the Sixth Form.

Each of these assessment types will require forms for the input of data and layouts for the final printed documents. These will be created for you by Furlong and stored within the system ready for you to use. You must then create Assessment Types and specify which of these forms and reports are to be used.

Illustrated below is an example with two assessment types. The first (Mid Term Assessment) is for internal use only and therefore has only input forms which are also used for review. The second (End of term report) has two input forms, one for subject reports and one for pastoral reports, and two printed layouts, a main document and a component forming part of the document. When you do this for the first time Furlong will advise you which components to select. The most commonly used input forms are RepWriteN01 with its partner N02 and RepWriteN03 with its partner N04. N01 allows a subject comment, Curriculum statement, 6 grades per subject and 4 scores.

Assessment Types

Components need not be used but you may find Component 1 useful. On (say) N01 there is a button Review that allows a teacher to review their reports in the style they will be printed in. As an example this can be most useful where schools have opted for a fixed length approach and teachers need to see how much space they have used. To enable this facility you need to select the component that comprises the subject part of the report set. This will normally have the suffix ‘sub’. For example if you are using a set of reports called ReportFurlong03, it is probable that the subject component will be called ReportFurlong03Sub. This may not always be the case. If in doubt, it will take Furlong a moment to check these for you.

As well as N01 to N04 there are numerous other report writing sets together with a series of older forms that are kept for early adopters wanting to look back at the first report sets. We will help you to choose one which suits you or devise a bespoke version to suit your school.
