If you wish to write your reports at home, we would recommend using SchoolBase Online. There are a few schools who still use our old system, SchoolBase at Home. You can transfer your reports onto a memory stick or other portable storage device and then write them on your home computer. Alternatively, if the school has provided you with a laptop computer, you can check out the reports onto the hard disc of your laptop, take it home, write your reports and then check them back into the main system when you return. The procedure is as follows:
- Choose Check In - Check Out from your menu.
- Click the Browse... button and navigate to the folder where you want to store the SchoolBaseAtHome file. When the folder is open, click the OK button. The path to your folder should now be shown as in the screenshot. (In this illustration SchoolBaseAtHome is going to be stored in the root directory of a memory stick which is seen by the computer as drive F:)
- Use the combo box labelled Assessment piece to select the set of reports you want to check out. The date associated with the reports is then displayed.
- Make sure Subject Reports is highlighted - if not click on it once.
- Click on the Check out button.
To write your reports, find the file called schoolbaseathome.mde on your memory stick or laptop and double click on it. A menu similar to the normal SchoolBase menu opens. Double-click on My subject reports then click the View Reports button. Write your reports as normal and then click the Close button in each of the three open windows.
The process of checking the reports back in is identical to checking them out, except that you click the Check in button.
Potential problems: (you may want to ask your administrator about this if you have a problem).
- Make sure that you do have permission to write to the folder where you are trying to store your reports. On some systems access to the C: drive is disabled for most users.
- Make sure that the security setting for Macros in Access is set to Low. To do this, on the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security. If you do not see the Macro menu item under the Tools menu, or the Security menu item under the Macro menu, click the arrows at the bottom of a drop-down menu to display the hidden menu items. Click the Security Level tab, and then select the security level Low.
- Don't attempt to write reports while you have them checked out or changes will be lost when you check them back in.
