To begin the process of creating a new set of assessments: - click on the Assessment setting button on the Assessment Menu
- click on the new record button
This opens a blank form as shown below.
Overall Assessment AttributesThe top half of the assessment setting form displays the basic attributes of the assessment. A typical example is shown below.
Academic Year - set by default to the current academic year. You are unlikely to want to change this. Assessment Date - normally the date that the assessments are to be issued to parents and/or pupils. It is not normally displayed on the printed report but appears whenever you need to select a set of assessments for a group or for an individual pupil. It appears for example on the Academic tab of the pupil record under Assessments and reports. Name - used to identify the assessment set in lists and is normally displayed with the Assessment Date. A typical example might be LS EOT Summer 07 referring to the assessment set for the Lower School End of Term reports for the Summer term 2007. When a pupil has been in your school for several years, they will have a multiplicity of reports. Good labelling and naming will help you to find the one you want. Title - a text field which may be displayed as part of the report heading. You might for example have a report design which has as part of the heading ‘Report for ’ followed by the contents of this field which might be ‘Summer 2007’ for this particular assessment set. Assessment Type a dropdown allowing you to select one of the assessment types you have already defined. (See Assessment Types above.) Footer message - a piece of text which may be displayed at the bottom of each report (or elsewhere), giving for example the start date of the following term. (This is optional.) Absence count text - If you are displaying the number of absences on the report, this can be used as explanatory text, e.g. ‘Half days missed:’. (This is optional.) The absences can be calculated automatically from attendance records. Late count text - This allows a similar piece of explanatory text, e.g. 'Number of times late:' Report for 1st teacher - If ticked a report will only be created for the first teacher recorded as teaching each group. If this can vary for this assessment set, leave the box unticked and then delete any blank reports at the end of the assessment process. Locked - If this is ticked, the assessment set will not be included in the list of current assessments. Released Leave this blank at this stage. If ticked it indicates that other members of staff may now access the reports for editing. You may want to leave it unticked at this stage to prevent early writing of reports. Until it is ticked, this assessment set will not appear on staff menus. Subject priority set - Use this to choose the priority set in order to determine the order in which subjects are displayed. (see above) Apply to years - In this list you should select each year group to whom this assessment set applies. In the illustration below only Years 7 and 8 are part of this assessment set. You will need a different assessment set for each year which has a discrete report layout. For example, Year 11 may have different components on their reports from Year 10 even though both are following GCSE courses.
